Dr. Hemen Kalita is a senior agricultural scientist and agronomist with more than three decades of experience in crop production, cropping systems, pulse and oilseed research, weed and nutrient management, sustainable agriculture and farmer-oriented technology development. He has served Assam Agricultural University since 1990 and has been Principal Scientist (Agronomy) at the AAU Zonal Research Station, Shillongani, Nagaon since 2008.
His scientific work combines long-term field research with practical technology development for farmers. Across his career, he has contributed to varietal identification and development, packages of practices, organic production modules, direct-seeded rice systems, rice-fallow intensification, nutrient and weed management, seed production and climate-responsive crop management. His work has covered major crops including rice, pulses, oilseeds, wheat, rajmash and horticultural systems, with particular relevance to Assam and the North-East.
Dr. Kalita has been associated with national and state research programmes, externally funded projects and seed-hub initiatives, and has served as a scientific speaker, reviewer, examiner and expert committee member. His contributions have been recognised through the Crop Research Award, University Gold Medal, ASPEE Gold Medal and other academic honours.
As an Independent Scientific Advisor to KINIKH Group, he provides evidence-based guidance on agronomy, sustainable crop systems, farm productivity, seed and varietal strategy, organic and natural farming, technology validation and the translation of agricultural research into commercially viable and farmer-relevant enterprise models.
